I was a bit nervous before I arrived because, although I love working with kids, I hadn’t had any experience in an official teaching setting. I quickly realised, though, that I had nothing to worry about. Lakni - the teaching coordinator - helped me every step of the way. She was incredible sweet and encouraging. With her help, I slowly became more confident in our lessons started to really enjoy the experience.
My favourite part was definitely interacting with the amazing, young monks. The children were incredibly sweet and funny and they always put a smile on my face. At the same time, though, they were dedicated and focused during our lessons. Our classes were the perfect combination of smiles, laughter and learning.
The Teaching English to Buddhist Monks program is truly special and I’m so happy I had the chance to get involved!
